As part of our Meet the Speaker series, we asked David to answer five quick questions ahead of the event. Tell us a little about yourself. I am from Birmingham (UK); everything else is upside. Tell us about your earlier career. Like a bullet into journalism, then editing and launching magazines. And since then, events and data-driven business intelligence. Tell us about your current role. Ascential is a fascinating global business primarily focused on figuring out the future for very large global brands. We are particularly experts in advertising, product design, fintech and e-commerce. My role is to ensure our content is as strong as it possibly can be and that usually boils down to three things; talent, rigour and innovation. What are the main challenges for specialist media? I don’t think there is enough focus on building multiple revenue streams. Doing one thing really well can be just about enough, two is profitable, three can be great. Look at Netflix. Look at Future. It’s hard because focusing on one thing is so much simpler. What are the main opportunities for specialist media? See above.
