I’m a US native, but I’m about to reach the point where I’ve lived in the UK longer than in the US. I work within the Risk Global division of InfoPro Digital as a Global Brand Director. I enjoy the variety of running a group that generates revenue from several diverse verticals. Outside my day job, I shuttle around two small people from swimming to football to hockey etc. You’ll find me either in a park or the Brixton Academy in London on the weekends. Tell us about your earlier career. I started my media career selling international companies into Russian and German exhibitions, Seafood Russia being one of my favourites. From there, I moved into the world of specialist B2B media brands, working as the commercial director of several titles. I then moved into the publisher/global brand director role. Tell us about your current role. Currently, I run WatersTechnology, a specialist group that informs capital market participants about data and technology needs. I look after the P&L of the group and set its growth strategy. I love the variety of working across all the business areas – no meeting is the same. What are the main challenges for B2B/special interest media verticals? Growing and engaging audiences. It’s not a new challenge but an ongoing one that grows with complexity. We are in a world where people want to turn down the number of emails they receive and understand that their information is a commodity. As information providers, we need to be sensitive and understand these needs when developing audience growth strategies and how we use that information. What are the main opportunities for B2B/special interest media verticals? There is a real demand to learn, understand and consume information. This can only benefit our market as the provider of these elements. All we need to do is listen to our customers and add value.
